Days before the Australian Open begins, Casper Ruud is on major birth watch.
Ruud’s fiancé Maria Galligani is pregnant with the couple’s first child, a daughter, and expected to give birth “at any time.”

So while former world No. 2 Ruud is preparing for the season’s first Grand Slam at Melbourne Park, he’s also ready to bolt back home immediately if his fiancé goes into labor in the coming days.
Ruud told the media in Auckland the couple plans to get married later this year.
“Honestly, [the baby] can come any time now,” Ruud said. “So hopefully I get to stay for the rest of the tournament, but you never know. I might get a call and be on the plane back home out of here.
“It’s no short trip back home so hopefully she stays in for a few extra weeks and I can be there for the birth, and later in the year we’ll have our wedding and celebrate our marriage.”
Ruud is the second seed at Auckland’s ASB Classic and set to play Fabian Marozsan in his opener.
