It was quite a fight during the last action of the night at the U.S. Open Thursday. The match between Novak Djokovic and Philipp Petzschner was pretty intense too.
In an incident that will no dobut be replayed over and over, giving the U.S. Open and its stadium officials a black eye, a young man got in an altercation with two older people last night, shoving both of them down and eventually being restrained by an entire host of security and spectators.
As the video shows, an older woman and a young man are arguing heatedely while other spectators chuckle but do nothing to intervene. No security is present either.
After the younger man sits down, the woman's father is seen confronting the younger man. The two exchange blows and take a nasty spill onto the seats in front of them. The older man looked dazed, while the younger man popped back up, only to get into a physical altercation with the woman and eventually several other male spectators and a couple of stadium officials.
According to police reports, all three people were eventually handcuffed and taken to the 110th Precinct in Queens. The incident leaves behind numerous questions including where security was throughout the altercation, which clearly went on for some minutes, and why none of the other spectators – who had no problem video taping and snapping photos of the argument and subsequent altercation – had the sense of responsibility to intervene.
Djokovic won the match 7-5, 6-3, 7-6.
