11th-ranked Agnieszka Radwanska was beaten by the Australian underdog, Jarmila Gajdosova 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. In the third set, Radwanska lead 3-0, but Gajdosova won 23 of the last 30 points to secure the win. Of the match, Gajdosova said, “I've been getting better at it as I've gotten older. I don't have any specific strategies but everything usually comes with age and experience. I've done it the last few matches and I'll keep trying to fight whenever I'm down.”
Americans Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Vania King took the court in Madrid for a patriotic showdown overseas. Mattek-Sands, however, dominated the match, serving King a bagel in the first set and finishing it up 6-0, 6-2.
