Agnieszka Radwanska was beaten by the Australian underdog, Jarmila Gajdosova 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. In the third set, Radwanska lead 3-0, but Gajdosova won 23 of the last 30 points to secure the win. Of the match, Gajdosova said, “I've been getting better at it as I've gotten older. I don't have any specific strategies but everything usually comes with age and experience. I've done it the last few matches and I'll keep trying to fight whenever I'm down.”

Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Vania King took the court in Madrid for a patriotic showdown overseas. Mattek-Sands, however, dominated the match, serving King a bagel in the first set and finishing it up 6-0, 6-2.
In other tournament news, Sam Stosur beat Daniela Hantuchova in straight sets, 7-6, 7-5. No. 1 ranked Caroline Wozniacki beat Bojana Jovanovski 6-4, 6-4. Marion Bartoli fell to Anastasia Pavyluchenkova, 7-5, 1-6.
