Suzan Lamens

Dutchwoman Suzan Lamens won an all-qualifier final in Osakis, defeating Kimberly Birrell for the title.

In the fifth all-qualifier final on the WTA Tour since 1990, Suzan Lamens of the Nethrlands captured her maiden title, defeating Kimberly Birrell 6-0, 6-4 for the Kinoshita Japan Open title in Osaka.

25-year-old Lamens will make her Top 100 debut on Monday as a result of her triumph. She earned her first three career hard-court wins on hard courts this week, defeating Viktoriya Tomova, Lucia Bronzetti and Diane Parry.

Both finalists pulled double duty on Sunday in Osaka after rain cancelled Saturday’s scheduled semifinals. Lamens started her day with a 6-2, 6-4 win over seventh-seeded Parry, while Birrell defeated Japan’s Aoi Ito, 6-4, 6-3.
