The Swiss had not won at the tour-level since defeating Madison Keys in Miami in 2011.
The former World No.7 started playing challenger events in 2015. She is 16-8 at the Challenger level this year with a title at Periqueux and a final at Essen.
Schnyder lost in the first round at Gstaad last season to Katerina Siniakova in three sets.
On Tuesday she squandered a set and 5-2 lead, failing to convert four match points in the second set. Sadikovic earned five match points over the course of the tenth and twelfth games of set three, but Schnyder was able to force a breaker and convert on her seventh match point.
The Swiss will face Germany’s Antonia Lottner, who defeated defending champion Viktorija Golubic, in the second round.
