The 18-year-old beat Argentinian Axel Geller, 7-6, 6-3, on Court No.1 for his first junior grand slam title. Spain's last winner of the title had been Manuel Orantes, who went on to capture the US Open as a senior eight years later, in 1975.

Davidovich Fokina began holding a racquet at the age of two, when his father started coaching him on the beaches of his hometown Malaga, a port city on Southern Spain’s Costa del Sol.

At age six Davidovich Fokina picked up a full-time coach. He is currently working with coach Jorge Aguirre, and has been sponsored by Tecnifibre for three years.

He plays with Tecnifibre’s T-Flash 315 Dynacore racquet and Tecnifibre Black Code 1.32 string.

Davidovich Fokina told reporters at Wimbledon that Roger Federer was his first idol, but in recent years he has gravitated to Novak Djokovic, a player whose game is more similar to his.
