The dust has settled in Melbourne, and the first Grand Slam of 2025 is in the books. Before we turn the page and move into a full slate of February tennis, let’s look back at 10 key numbers that moved the needle over the course of another brilliant Aussie fortnight.

1 – Number of match points saved by Madison Keys en route to the women’s singles title. The 29-year-old American won her maiden major and became the 16th woman to win a major title in the Open Era from match point down. She is the first to do so at the Australian Open since Caroline Wozniacki in 2018.
3 – Jannik Sinner wins his third major title and becomes the first Italian in history to win more than two major singles titles. The 23-year-old has now won three of the last five majors.
5 – Sinner was 0-8 against the Top 5 at the majors prior to the start of the 204 season. Since then he has gone 5-2 against the Top 5 at the majors.
8 – Sinner is one of eight men to have won each of their first three Grand Slam finals in the Open Era. On the flip side, Zverev is the seventh man to lose each of his first three major finals.
13 – Number of losses that Alexander Zverev has suffered against the Top-5 at the Slams. The German has notched just one win against Top 5 competition at the majors, it came last year in Melbourne against Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals.
21 – Jannik Sinner completes a successful Aussie Open title defense by stretching his current win streak to 21 victories. There is some symmetry there, as the Italian has also won 21 consecutive hardcourt matches at the majors.
38 – Gael Monfils is now the oldest man to ever defeat a Top-5 player at the Australian Open, thanks to his third-round win over Taylor Fritz. The 38-year-old Frenchman became the oldest player to earn a Top-5 win at a major since 1973 with that win.
46 – Only two players have waited longer to win their maiden women’s singles major title. Keys was making her 46th career main draw appearance at the majors. Only Flavia Penetta (49th when she won the 2015 US Open) and Marion Bartoli (47th when she won Wimbledon in 2013) have taken more appearances before breaking through.
60-3 – Sinner’s record on hard court since the start of 2024. 99 – Djokovic finishes his Australian Open with 99 career wins in Melbourne, and 99 career titles. The 10-time champion will turn 38 before the next major, on May 22nd.
2005 – By defeating the No.1 and No.2 ranked players at this year’s Australian Open, Madison Keys became the first woman to achieve that feat at the Australian Open since Serena Williams in 2005. She’s the first woman to do it at a major since Svetlana Kuznetsova at Roland-Garros in 2009.
