Upbeat Kvitova Tells Press She's Eager to Return to Tennis

With her left hand thickly bandaged, Petra Kvitova spoke to Czech press about the extent of her injuries on Friday in Prague, saying that she was determined not to look back and hopeful that she can return to tennis in the not too distant future.

She thanked the medical staff, the police, her family and her team for helping her through the difficult situation, and added that she was able to move her hand on Thursday during a session with her doctor.

“Yesterday morning during a session with the doctor, I was able to move the fingers on my left hand,” Kvitova said. “It was the greatest Christmas present that I could have hoped for.”

Kvitova was attacked at her home in Prostejov on the morning of December 20th. The knife-wielding burglar did not know it was the home of Kvitova, according to reports. After surviving the struggle Kvitova was taken to the hospital with lacerations to the tendons of her playing hand as well as the nerves of the same hand.

After a successful surgery, the two-time Wimbledon champion is upbeat about her situation, and appears eager to put the incident behind her.

Initial medical reports point to a long rehabilitation, with Kvitova returning to tennis no sooner than six months.

“Now I am looking forward to spending time with my family, and ask for privacy and peace as I start my journey towards a return to the tennis court.”
