Strings that Sing: New Offerings from Wilson, Babolat and Luxilon Hit the Market in 2020
Thinking about switching up strings as you make your way back onto the courts in 2020? Then you may want to hear about these new strings that have hit the market of late.
Wilson NXT Soft
With NXT Soft, Wilson improves on the incredibly popular NXT formula. NXT Soft features softer fibers with elongated filaments to generate more power and provide excellent shock absorption, this string dials up the comfort without compromising feel. Compared with NXT original, NXT Soft has 30% more elongation for increased ball dwell time on strings. With a 26% increase in filaments over NXT, Soft will provide even more power. NXT Soft absorbs 9% more shock than original NXT and the string is the perfect solution to soften a stiffer racquet.
Comes in Blue or Silver in only 16 Gauge / 1.30 mm
Luxilon ALU Power
One of the best-strings-in-the-business is back with some new gauge variations. ALU Power now comes in 16G (1.30mm), and 18G (1.15mm), to go along with the world renowned 16L (1.25mm). Expect the thicker gauge to offer increased tension maintenance and the thinner version to provide more power and spin, with a slight dip in durability.
It is easy to miss new strings when they hit the market because we are so focused on racquets, shoes, and apparel, but in the first quarter of 2020 the top brands have delivered some surefire winners.
Babolat RPM Power
Babolat adds a new tennis string with RPM Power. The string features a striking "electric brown" color and brings a completely different vibe to the popular RPM franchise. With their innovative CO PET-C extrusion technology, Babolat created a round-shaped string with increased feel while keeping the string crisp and control-oriented. RPM Power slides easily against itself to help impart spin on the ball. The string is used on tour by Dominic Thiem. Expect RPM Power to be the most powerful polyester in the RPM String franchise.
Available in 16 Gauge / 1.30 mm and 17 Gauge / 1.25 mm. Sets and Full Reels.
Head Lynx Tour
HEAD updates their polyester offerings with the new Lynx Tour Tennis String. While the other strings in the Lynx family play a little bit more muted and powerful for a polyester, Lynx Tour is all about spin and control. The string has a subtle, 6-sided profile to help players create more spin, and HEAD created a new co-polymer mixture to up the comfort factor. String Lynx Tour in the mains and crosses to up control and spin potential. The string also works well in a hybrid with a softer multifilament like HEAD Velocity or Reflex. Our playtesters noted that Lynx Tour had excellent control, even when strung at a lower tension.
Comes in a 16 Gauge / 1.30 mm or 17 Gauge / 1.25 mm. Sets and Full Reels.
