Serena Williams has withdrawn from next week’s Wuhan Open and the China Open the following week with a right shoulder injury.
The world No. 1 has gone 38-6 with two titles in 2016. She reached the final of the year’s first three majors, finishing runner-up in Australia and Roland Garros and winning her record-tying 22nd major title at Wimbledon. At the U.S. Open Williams passed Martina Navratilova and Roger Federer to move into sole possession of the all-time Grand Slam match wins record, but she fell in the semifinal to Karolina Pliskova.
Williams will turn 35 on Monday, September 26th. She has won nine major titles since turning 30, three times more than any other woman.
Williams expects to return for the WTA Finals in Singapore, which will be held October 23-30.
