Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

When we think of Madison Keys we usually think of booming serves, ballistic forehands and a no-holds-barred aggressiveness that puts an opponent perpetually on the back foot. That’s pretty accurate, actually, but maybe we should add “divine shotmaker” to that descriptive analysis of Keys game as well. Check out this amazing forehand pass from the American from her straight-sets win over Dominika Cibulkova on Tuesday at the WTA Finals. Keys picked up her first WTA Finals victory with the win and can qualify for the semifinals with a win over Angelique Kerber.

“Definitely really happy with how I kind of turned things around,” said Keys, who says she felt much more comfortable with regard to nerves in her second match at Singapore. “I think a big part of it was just more knowing what to expect. I think that just kind of gave me the ability to kind of regroup and refocus.”
