Mattek-Sands and Safarova Win Wuhan, Qualify for Singapore


Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova won the Wuhan title on Saturday—and qualified for Singapore, too. With their 6-1, 6-4 victory over Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova, Mattek-Sands and Safarova became the fourth team to qualify for the prestigious year-end finals.

Mattek-Sands and Safarova won their third major title at this year’s U.S. Open. They will make their second appearance at the WTA Finals. Last year they failed to qualify for the semifinals, going 1-2 in round robin play.
