Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

Dominika Cibulkova forgot to grab the ball kid before she walked on court for her Round Robin match with Madison Keys on Tuesday in Singapore. Eventually she hooked up with the young lady and performed the pre-match ritual. That was the good part for the Slovakian. The bad part? She fell to 0-4 against Keys and will need a minor miracle to reach the semifinals in the Red Group.

In the end, the ball girl wasn’t all Cibulkova wants to forget about Tuesday.

“It wasn’t a match I want to remember,” she said of the loss to Keys.

“It was one of those days where she was playing really good,” Cibulkova said. “I couldn’t read her serve that well. That was it because we didn’t get into too many rallies. That’s what she wanted and it was just going her way today.”

Cibulkova still has a small shot to qualify for the semifinals, if she can manage a win over Simona Halep on Thursday. Here are the Group B semifinal scenarios.
