A full marriage of men's and women's tennis has the blessing of WTA CEO Steve Simon.
Simon said he supports merging the ATP and WTA into one unified governing body—a suggestion Roger Federer made on Twitter last month.
Nadal: 2020 Season Practically Lost
"I'm not afraid of the full merger; I never have been," Simon told The New York Times. "I would certainly be the first to support it ...
"Obviously it's a long and winding road to get there, but I think it makes all the sense in the world."
The idea of unifying the two tours into one was raised by Billie Jean King years ago. Federer recently revisited the idea on Twitter.
"Just wondering... am I the only one thinking that now is the time for men's and women's tennis to be united and come together as one?" Federer posted.
Champions including King, Rafael Nadal, Petra Kvitova, Garbine Muguruza and Simona Halep have supported the idea on social media.
