Thiem snaps the streak of Top 3 dominance of world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Federer for the first time since May 6th, 2019.
Thiem knocked off Nadal and seventh-ranked Alexander Zverev in succession en route to his first Australian Open final where he held a two-sets-to-one lead over Djokovic before falling in five sets.
The 26-year-old Thiem defeated Federer in the Indian Wells final last March then beat the 20-time Grand Slam champion again at the ATP Finals in London in November. The Indian Wells crown was one of five championships Thiem won in 2019.
