Former Australian Open doubles champion Fabio Fognini knows his way around the frontcourt.

That shot gave Fognini a set point in the first-set tie break. When Tsonga put a backhand into net, Fognini won a set from the Frenchman for just the second time in five career meetings.

The 43rd-ranked Fognini defeated Tsonga for the first time, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-4, in two hours, 29 minutes setting up a third-round match with either 27th-seeded Pablo Cuevas or Martin Klizan.
