Second Serve

Note to British wild card Brydan Klein: do not say mean things about yourself to yourself.

Watch as umpire Mohamed Lahyani disqualifies Klein simply for yelling at himself after failing to make a critical return on break point on Thursday at the Nottingham Challenger.

Sam Groth was serving for the match and facing break point when Klein missed a shot and berated himself.

“Stupid, stupid person,” he said. “Idiot.”

And that was all it took. Klein had already received a warning and a point penalty in the match, so this final incident left him with a game penalty and no chances to break Groth.

Like in baseball, it’s three strikes and you’re out in tennis.

The best part of the whole video is how much joy Lahyani takes in giving Klein the boot. Nothing like a man that truly loves his job!
