Franco Davin was starting to return to normalcy in his life in June when he suddenly got sick and tested positive for Covid-19 in Miami, where he is based. A few days later the former coach of Juan Martin del Potro was left wondering if he’d make it through.
“On the fourth or fifth day I started coughing and shortness of breath,” Franco told La Nacion. “That's the worst. In my situation it was what made me most desperate because you read everything that happens. I have Italian friends who told me one thing, the Spanish told me another. Having the oxygen saturation gauge came in handy. The doctor told me to monitor myself, because if I saturated less than indicated, I had to go to the hospital."
The former World No.30, who has also coached Gaston Gaudio, Grigor Dimitrov, Fabio Fognini and, today, Kyle Edmund, says that he had the most difficulty at night.
“At night you start to despair a little,” he said. “I had a bad time and you feel that you are dying.”
Davin is feeling better now and is back in good health. His difficulties are more proof that Covid-19 doesn’t only have harmful effects on people that are 65 or over, or those that are considered to have pre-existing health conditions that put them in danger.
