CoCo Vandeweghe is back in the mix.
The American will make her first tour-level appearance of 2019 as a wild card at the Mubadala Silicon Valley Championships in San Jose, California next week.
Vandeweghe has been out since last October, when she cut her season short due to a right ankle injury. She then suffered an unrelated right foot injury that forced her to pull out of the Australian swing and she has since been working her way back to fitness.
The American joins a field that includes former Grand Slam winners Grand Slam winners Venus Williams, Garbiñe Muguruza, Victoria Azarenka and Jelena Ostapenko.
Also in the mix at San Jose are defending champion Mihaela Buzarnescu, 2018 finalist Maria Sakkari, 17-year-old phenom Amanda Anisimova, World No. 7 Elina Svitolina, World No. 10 Aryna Sabalenka, Chinese No. 1 Qiang Wang, Belgium's Elise Mertens and Australian Open semifinalist Danielle Collins.
Vandeweghe recently played her first competitive tennis at World Team Tennis for the San Diego Aviators, where she played singles and doubles in the Aviators 23-16 loss to the Philadelphia Freedoms on July 22. Vandeweghe defeated Taylor Townsend in singles, 5-3.
Vandeweghe, a former World No.10 and last year’s U.S. Open doubles champion with Ash Barty, reached the final of the tournament in 2012 and 2017, when it was played in Stanford and known as the Bank of the West Classic.
The American is currently ranked 626.
