Second Serve

Garbiñe Muguruza powered past Venus Williams in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0 in Saturday’s Wimbledon final to become the second Spanish woman to ever claim a singles title at SW19.

The 23-year-old now owns two Grand Slam titles and joins a cast of eight active players that have won more than one major.

Muguruza saved all three break points she faced including two set points while serving at 4-5 of the first set. She did not drop another game from there.

After a 51-minute first set, Muguruza trampled an increasingly erratic Williams, concluding the final set in 26 minutes and the match in 77 minutes.

Muguruza improves to 4-1 against Williams lifetime and 2-1 lifetime in major finals. She finished with 14 winners against 11 unforced errors while Williams finished with 17 winners and 25 unforced errors.
