Second Serve

Dustin Brown and magic go hand-in-hand at Wimbledon. On Day 1 the German improved to 6-6 lifetime at the All England Club (Brown is 2-11 combined at other majors) with a 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-4 win over Joao Sousa to book a second-round clash with Andy Murray.

Brown’s vintage dive? It’s a customary part of his tennis at SW19—think of it as something as natural as wearing whites at Wimbledon.

“That's my type of tennis,” Brown said. “For example, Joao wants to hit serves and then hit forehands. Same way I want to play aggressive and go to the net. That's just how I play. That has nothing to do with trying to be exciting or flashy or any of that. That's my tennis. And, yeah, I have said it a million times that's how I play, and if people like it, then obviously that's a nice thing, but that's not what I think about when I go out there.”

Brown has not faced Murray since the 2010 U.S. Open, and he hopes that he can make more inroads against the Defending and two-time Wimbledon champion on Day 3.

“Andy is one of the best returners out there,” Brown said. “Like I said, I feel like the balls are a lot slower and it's not making it as easy to play aggressive and play only serve and volley.”
