Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

Sania Mirza claimed her first WTA doubles titles in nearly three years, and her first as a mother on Saturday at the Hobart International.

Mirza and Nadiia Kichenok of the Ukraine claimed a 6-4 6-4 triumph over Peng Shuai and Zhang Shuai of China in one hour and 21 minutes.

Mirza and Kichenok won six straight games from 3-4 down in the opener but found themselves on serve at 4-4 in the second before claiming the final two games.

The title marks Mirza’s 42nd of her WTA career. She owns three major doubles titles and three mixed titles and is the first woman from India to ever hold the No.1 ranking.
