Dunlop Launches New SX Series

2020 shapes up as a season of spin and Dunlop's new series aims to make the most of it.

Dunlop has unveiled its new SX Series of racquets. The brand touts the new line as the "most advanced range of spin racquets it’s ever developed."

The range consists of the SX 300 Tour, the SX 300, the SX 300 LS, the SX 300 Lite and the SX 600. Each features Spin Boost technology, a series of specialized grommets designed to uniquely react based on where the ball hits the string bed on every shot.

“Spin Boost technology is a completely new concept when it comes to enhancing spin,” said Kai Nitsche, VP and General Manager of Dunlop. “The extra spin it produces is helpful, but just as importantly, Spin Boost makes each shot more consistent and predictable for players. This was all proven through extensive testing against the best competition.”

Dunlop SX 300 Testing

As part of the development and testing process, Dunlop used a robotic swing machine to compare the SX 300 model against the previous generation of spin raquet.

The SX Series was thoroughly tested by Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) in Kobe, Japan, with the frames demonstrating 3% more spin and 13% more consistent ball trajectory than its previous spin racquet series.

Takeaways from the Testing

“The SX Series will allow players to express themselves by playing with more consistency,” said Patrick Mouratoglou, Dunlop Global ambassador, founder of the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy and coach of Serena Williams. “The SX Series helps you gain control through spin. Ultimately the racquets deliver not just more spin, but more in.”

How It Works

Spin Boost technology is a dynamic set of spin-enhancing grommets that work with a dense, control-string pattern to increase the accuracy of shots hit with spin. Oblong-shaped, the grommets are located on the ten main strings at the top section of the hoop.

The result on off-center shots at low impact locations on the string bed is 46% more string slide motion (compared with high impact locations), meaning more bite on the ball and more height and distance on shots. On off-center high impact locations on the string bed the technology gives less string slide motion with less height and distance given to the ball.
