38-year-old qualifier Radek Stepanek has qualified for the Australian Open. The Czech defeated Aussie John-Patrick Smith, 6-2, 6-4 on Saturday to make it official. He won back-to-back three setters in his first two qualifying matches, over Sekou Bangoura and Blaz Kavcic.

Stepanek is the oldest qualifier at a Grand Slam since 1977.

He will face 34-year-old Dmitry Tursunov in the first round at Melbourne.
