17-year-old Alex De Minaur claimed his first Grand Slam win on Day 1 of the Australian Open—and he did in style. The World No.301 saved a match point against Austrian Gerald Melzer in the fourth set before winning the tiebreaker to force a decider.

From there it was all downhill for De Minaur who would drop just one more game much to the delight of the fervent support on Court 3. He was a participant in boys’ singles last year, reaching the semis, but de Minaur is in the big leagues now.

"The Fanatics were unbelievable," he said "I never felt such an unbelievable experience with a crowd. They were loud the whole match. I'm pretty sure they got me through that match."

He added: "Words can't describe how I'm feeling right now," he said. "Definitely the happiest moment of my life.

He’ll face hard-serving American Sam Querrey in the second round on Wednesday in Melbourne.
