Welcome back to the US Open Series, Vera Zvonareva.
The 2010 Wimbledon and US Open finalist has been awarded a wild card into the qualifying field for the Connecticut Open in New Haven.
Azarenka: Won't Play US Open
New Haven qualifying begins tomorrow.
The former world No. 2 has played ITF events recently in preparation for a WTA Tour return.
Zvonareva won the ITF tournament in Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt last month and shared this image from the event on Instagram.
The 32-year-old Russian beat Sadafmoh Tolibova and Eva Aleksandrova reaching the final round of qualifying in last month's ITF event in Astana, Kazakhstan, but withdrew.
Earlier in her career, Zvonareva played some of her most dynamic tennis on North American hard courts.
The 2006 US Open doubles champion reached the Montreal final in 2010 losing to Caroline Wozniacki. Zvonareva avenged that defeat beating Wozniacki weeks later to advance to the US Open final where she fell to Kim Clijsters.
A year ago, Zvonareva married and became a mom.
