Bartoli To Run NYC Marathon

Four years after she reached the US Open quarterfinals, Marion Bartoli is making another New York City run.

The 2013 Wimbledon champion, who is on the road to recovery from a mystery virus, announced today that she will run the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon for a charitable cause.

The 31-year-old Bartoli will make her marathon debut as a New York Road Runners Team for Kids runner on Sunday, November 6, 2016.

Bartoli will raise funds for NYRR’s Team for Kids, the TCS New York City Marathon’s largest charity running team that raises funds for NYRR’s free youth running programs in New York City and across the country, by using NYRR’s partner fundraising platform, CrowdRise.

Donations to Team for Kids on behalf of Bartoli’s run can be made at www.crowdrise.com/marionb.

During Wimbledon, the former world No. 7 announced she was battling a mystery virus that made her sensitive to certain food and electronics and contributed to her dramatic weight loss.

“It is an honor to announce that I will run my first marathon this fall, and it is with great excitement that I will do so at the TCS New York City Marathon in November,” Bartoli said. “After recently falling ill from a terrible virus and embarking on a long road to recovery, I have set my sights on the TCS New York City Marathon as my next goal.”

Bartoli is currently at the US Open working as broadcaster for Eurosport.

Caroline Wozniacki, who ran the 2014 New York City Marathon in three hours, 26 minutes said today she hopes Bartoli can regain her health first and supports her marathon bid.

"I think she needs to get healthy. I really hope she gets her health back," Wozniacki said of Bartoli. "Obviously she's been struggling with the virus or what's been, but I hope she's happy and healthy. That's the main thing. And then if she wants to run a marathon, then that's cool. I support her in that. It's very hard."
