Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

As far as tweeners go, this was a pretty run-of-the-mill baseline rally ball that Ivan Dodig struck against Rafael Nadal during their round-of-16 encounter at the Barcelona Open on Thursday evening. But, it was a tweener, and we like--scratch that: loooooove!--tweeners.

And, while Dodig's between-the-wickets display wasn't a Roger Federer or Dustin Brown caliber tweener, the strapping 29-year-old struck the ball with quite a bit of pace, got it deep enough to get back to neutral in the rally, and won the point. The Croatian even won the game, before eventually falling to Nadal, 6-3, 6-3.

Not bad at all, we must say.

Also of note, and equally impressive, is the lob that Nadal was able to hit off of Dodig's original volley, which was really about as good a volley as you are going to see.

A fantastic point, and a racquet clap to TennisHighlightsHD for posting.
