Roger Federer reaches 300 weeks at No. 1 (October 11, 2012) --  With his three-set victory over Stan Wawrinka on Thursday in Shanghai, Roger Federer has guaranteed himself his 300th week at the top of the ATP rankings.

Federer, who reclaimed the top spot on July 9th after winning his seventh Wimbledon and seventeenth Grand Slam title, first claimed the No. 1 ranking on February 2nd, 2004. From there Federer held the top spot until August 11th, 2008.

Federer served a second stint at No. 1 from July 6, 2009 to June 7, 2010.

Federer passed Pete Sampras for most weeks at No. 1 all-time (the old record was 286) when he reclaimed the ranking this summer. He is the only male player to reach the 300-week plateau. Martina Navratilova (332) and Steffi Graf (377) are the only women to have surpassed 300 weeks at No. 1.

“It’s pretty incredible,” said Federer. “Probably one of my biggest accomplishments. I’m very proud of that record, no doubt about it.

Federer will face Marin Cilic in the quarterfinals at the Shanghai Rolex Masters on Friday.
