Ana Ivanovic was taken down in the quarterfinals today against challenger Marion Bartoli, 6-4, 7-6. While Bartoli is currently ranked high than Ivanovic, Ana was widely considered to be on a roll during this tournament and was expected to make a run at her No. 1 spot once again.

However, Bartoli came out the victor after an incredibly difficult second set. After a near-loss to No. 2-ranked Kim Clijsters, who was forced to retire due to a shoulder injury, Bartoli will now go on to play against the winner of the Peer-Wickmayer match-up later this evening.

Ivanovic comes off of a great win over Jelena Jankovic, during which she certainly shined like in her glory days. However, after several faults during this game and a powerful match played by Bartoli, we won’t be seeing her again until Miami.

To blame may be the fact that Ivanovic recently fired her trainer, Marija Lojanica, after recently firing her coach.  For purpose, Ivanovic cited that the weight she recently lost was negatively impacting her game.
