Novak Djokovic has taken to social media to address speculation about his whereabouts after testing positive for Covid-19 in December. After much speculation in the media and on social media concerning court documents which stated the dates of Djokovic’s positive test, the World No.1 has taken to Instagram to explain his side of the story, and address what he calls “misinformation” about his activities on those dates.

“This is misinformation which needs to be corrected,” he wrote. "Particularly in the interest of alleviating broader concern in the community about my presence in Australia, and to address matters which are very hurtful and concerning to my family.”

Djokovic explained that he attended a basketball game in Belgrade on 14 December, after which many people reported testing positive for Covid 19. He added that he took a rapid antigen test on December 16, although he had no symptoms, and he also took an approved PCR test on the same day, out of caution.

The Serb went on to explain that he attended a tennis event in Belgrade to present awards to children on December 17, again taking a rapid antigen test before going to the event – it was also negative. Djokovic received news of a positive test after that (on Dec. 17, it seems) and proceeded to attend a commitment for a photo shoot and interview with L’équipe on the next day, despite the positive test.

With regret, Djokovic said he felt obliged to go ahead and conduct the interview, saying that he practiced social distancing and wore a mask when my photograph was taken.

He said it was an “error of judgement” and accepted that he should have rescheduled the commitment.
