Casper Ruud notched his biggest career win and snapped a winless streak against World No.4 Alexander Zverev on Wednesday in Miami.

The No.8-ranked Norwegian reached his first Masters 1000 semifinal on hard court and his fourth overall with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 victory over the German.

Ruud had dropped all four previous sets against Zverev but was the better player on Wednesday, particularly in the third set.

Ruud dropped just four points on serve in the decider to back up his early break and close out his victory in style.

He will face Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo in the semifinals. The World No.103 came through on Wednesday via retirement, as Jannik Sinner had to give up the match due to blisters on his feet.

Ruud improves to 12-3 on the season, and continues his progression on hard courts. He was 16-27 on hard prior to 2021, and has won 35 and lost just 13 on the surface since, including his first hard court title at San Diego last October.
