Bianca Andreescu picked up another win today in Strasbourg, her second in two days, 6-1, 6-4 over Maryna Zanevska of Belgium. Unfortunately the Canadian picked up another minor injury and pulled out of the Internationaux de Strasbourg. Next stop, Roland-Garros.

“I will be pulling out of my next match because I did feel a little bit of an ab tear, just a little bit, and I don't want to push it at all for the French Open. I don't want to take any risks, so yes, I have to pull out - nothing serious though, like a little discomfort,” she told reporters in a virtual press conference. "In the second set, it was getting a bit more tense obviously, I did feel some discomfort."

Andreescu, who missed Madrid and Rome due to a positive Covid test result and the resulting travel conflicts, says she’ll likely be 100 percent in time for main draw play at Roland-Garros next week.

"I don't think it's anything serious, but in the past I've pulled through a lot of injuries and I just got them worse, and I want to learn from those mistakes, and that's why I don't want to push it before a Grand Slam," she said. "It's super disappointing having to pull out but the tennis that I did portray in the two matches was really, really good. I executed everything exactly how I wanted to, with my serve, with my return, with my heavy shots on the clay, my movement, all of that, so I'm really happy with these two matches before the French."

Andreescu didn’t seem very alarmed about the severity of her injury, but says she did start to feel it after serving.

“I can't pinpoint exactly when it happened but it was on a serve, obviously,” she said. “Yeah, my goal right now is to take care of it as much as I can, and see how that goes."

She added that she is feeling confident on the clay, despite the lack of matches on the surface this spring.

"It's nice to be back, first of all, to be playing on clay, a lot of preparation before this has been really great, I think I portrayed that in my matches, super super clean, and hopefully I can take this moment into the next tournament and keep getting some wins."
