Despite a rough loss in the Australian Open finals, Russia’s Daniil Medvedev has still cracked an impressive rankings milestone this week.

The Russian rises to No.3 in the world, nudging Dominic Thiem down to the fourth spot. Medvedev now sits just 115 points behind Rafael Nadal for the No.2 ranking – if he does manage to get there in the coming weeks he would be just the fourth player to rise to No.2 in the rankings since 2005.

Also making a magnificent jump was Aslan Karatsev. The 27-year-old Russian, who made a surprise splash at the Australian Open and became the first ATP player ever to reach the semifinals on his Grand Slam main draw debut, rises 72 spots from 114 to 42.

Also rising up the ATP rankings was Feliciano Lopez. The 39-year-old Spaniard ticked up eight spots after reaching the third round in Australia. Lopez jumps to No.57.

It was a brilliant Australian Open for the Spaniard—Not only did Lopez stretch his streak to 75 consecutive Grand Slam main draws played, he has also reached the third round, which makes him the oldest ATP player to take his spot in the third round at a major since the great Ken Rosewall in 1978.
