Before the US Open is off and running, we took a look inside numbers to see what kinds of milestones are at stake, and which streaks that are on the line. Here's what we found.

26 Novak Djokovic enters the US Open with a 26-match winning streak in tow. The Serb has opened 2020 with 23 straight wins and he’ll bid for his 18th major title over the next two weeks. More on Novak later....


23 Serena Williams comes in with 23 major titles to her name, just one shy of the all-time record held by Margaret Court. Williams is also tied on the all-time Open Era US Open titles list with Chris Evert at six.

73-1 Serena Williams record in Grand Slam first-round matches. The American’s only loss came to Virginie Razzano at Roland Garros in 2012.

41 A total of 41 men’s and women’s singles players are making their US Open debut this week in New York.

0-8 Josef Kovalik's record in main draw Grand Slam matches. The 27-year-old is facing Maxime Cressy in the first round.

284 Number of weeks spent at No.1 by Novak Djokovic. The Serb will pass Pete Sampras and move into second on the all-time list on September 21.

9 Number of former US Open Boys Singles champions in the men’s singles draw – Thiago Seyboth Wild (2019), Felix Auger-Aliassime (2018), Taylor Fritz (2015), Borna Coric (2013), Jack Sock (2010), Grigor Dimitrov (2008), Ricardas Berankis (2007), Andy Murray (2004), Richard Gasquet (2002).


40 Venus Williams (21-0) and Serena Williams (19-0) are a combined 40-0 in first-round action at the US Open.

9 Number of former US Open Champions in the draw - Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Naomi Osaka, Sloane Stephens, Angelique Kerber, Kim Clijsters, Novak Djokovic, Marin Cilic and Andy Murray.

0-8 Heather Watson’s record at the US Open. She faces Johanna Konta in first-round action on Tuesday. Tough ask.

0 Number of men that have won the US Open men’s singles titles in the Open Era without dropping a set. Neale Fraser is the last player to accomplish the feat at the Open, in 1960.

54 Number of consecutive Grand Slam main draws that AlizĂ© Cornet has played in. The Frenchwoman has topped the all-time active list for women, and is just eight majors shy of Ai Sugiyama’s record for consecutive women’s singles draws played (62).

11 Number of teenagers in the women’s singles draw—Robin Montgomery (15), Coco Gauff (16), Katrina Scott (16), Leylah Fernandez (17), Hailey Baptiste (18), Marta Kostyuk (18) Caty McNally (18), Whitney Osuigwe (18), Amanda Anisimova (19), Iga Swiatek (19) Kaja Juvan (19).

There are two teenagers in the draw on the men’s side, 19-year-old Jannik Sinner and 19-year-old Brandon Nakashima.

73 The all-time leader in consecutive main draws played at the Slams is Feliciano Lopez. The Spaniard will play his 73rd consecutive major this week. He passed Roger Federer for the all-time record at Wimbledon in 2018. Fernando Verdasco is now second on the all-time list with 67 straight majors played.
