Coco Gauff is perfect on clay.

The 16-year-old American toppled Ons Jabeur of Tunisia on Tuesday at Rome to win her first WTA-level match on clay in her first try, 6-4 6-3.

Gauff, ranked 53, improves to 2-0 lifetime against Jabeur after converting six breaks of serve to triumph in one hour and 21 minutes.

It wasn’t the cleanest match for Gauff, who was broken four times and won just eight of 20 points on her second serve, but she dominated on return and won 58 percent of the points in the match.

Gauff will move on to face either Sloane Stephens or GarbiƱe Muguruza in the second round at Rome.

Kerber Grounded by Siniakova

Angelique Kerber could manage only four games against Katerina Siniakova on Tuesday as the No.15 seed went down in 69 minutes and won just four of 15 second serve points against the 24-year-old World No. 61.

Siniakova entered with a five-match losing streak that dated back to February but the Czech made it look easy as she earned her first Top 30 win since she defeated then World No.1 Naomi Osaka at Roland Garros last year.

In other action at the Foro Italico, No.12-seeded Marketa Vondrousova defeated Misaki Doi, 6-1 4-6 6-4, while No.14-seeded Anett Kontaveit topped Caroline Garcia 6-3 7-6(1).

Yulia Putintseva stopped Rebecca Peterson 6-2 6-4 while Arantxa Rus knocked off 19-year-old Pole Iga Swiatek 7-6(5) 6-3.
