Forbes has announced that Osaka has become the highest-earning female athlete in the world, with $37.4 million the last 12 months from prize money and endorsements, which eclipsed Serena Williams by $1.4 million.

That figure sets an all-time earnings record for a female athlete in a single year; According to Forbes Maria Sharapova previously held the record with $29.7 million in 2015.

Both Osaka (29) and Williams (33) are among the world’s 100 highest-paid athletes for the year. Williams had been the world’s highest-paid female athlete each of the past four years. Since 2011 either Sharapova or Williams had ranked No.1 among female athletes in the world.
