Simona Halep is taking positive steps on her road to recovery.

The Wimbledon champion has resumed running as she continues her recovery from a foot injury.

Halep, who has been in lockdown during the coronavirus crisis, says her foot is improving.

"The foot looks good, I have started to run already," Halep says in this video she posted to Twitter. "And I don't have pain at all."

The world No. 2 donated funds to buy medical equipment for doctors and nurses fighting the COVID-19 crisis in her native Romania.

Halep, who reached the Australian Open semifinals in January, captured her 20th career title in Dubai in February.

Wimbledon cancelled for the first time in 75 years, which will extend the 28-year-old Romanian's reign as Wimbledon champion. Halep says she misses life on the pro circuit, but encouraged fans to stay home and stay strong in an effort to stop the coronavirus surge.

"I miss my team, I miss the players, I miss the tournaments, I miss everyone from the Tour," Halep said. "I know it's bit tough for everybody, this period. But if we stay home, if we stay strong and positive it will help a lot.

"I can't wait to travel again, I can't wait to play tennis again and I can't wait to see you."
