Ukrainian Daria Snigur has joined a select group that includes Martina Hingis, Amelie Mauresmo, Agnieszka Radwanska and Caroline Wozniacki—she’s a Wimbledon Girls’ Singles champion.

The 17-year-old became the first Ukrainian to win the Girls Singles title since Kateryna Bondarenko in 2004, and she did it from the unseeded ranks, taking out top-seeded American Emma Navarro in the semis before defeating No.10-seeded Alexa Noel 6-4 6-4 in the final.

Snigur rallied from 4-1 down in the first and 3-0 down in the second to defeat Noel in 81 minutes.

“I'm now nervous,” Snigur said in her post-match interview in the big interview room.

It was no doubt an intimidating experience for her, sitting at the same interview desk that Simona Halep would address the press at moments later.

“I'm nervous before match, during the match, after the match. I'm nervous whole time,” she said.

Snigur had defeated Noel in the Roehampton final, also on grass. Noel struggled to find the court and hit just eight winners against 31 unforced.

Snigur was not flawless by any means, but did enough to win. She finished with 19 winners and 28 unforced errors.

She held at love in the final game, finishing with a clean backhand down-the-line winner before dropping to her knees in celebration at the baseline.

“I can't believe it,” she said. “It was my dream. It's very good for me. I worked hard every day for this trophy. It's incredible.”
