Alexander Zverev ended the six-match winning streak of Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili, 7-5, 6-4.

The World No.5 needs to reach the semifinals in Beijing to clinch his spot in the ATP World Tour Finals, and he’ll face Australia’s Alex de Minaur in the third round at Shanghai.

De Minaur defeated Benoit Paire, 6-4, 6-3.

The German told reporters after the match that he’s a bit under the weather—he hopes to feel better by the time his next match rolls around.

"I played a solid match,” Zverev said, according to ATPWorldTour.com. “I did everything that I needed to win. Focused a lot, focused on my game. As you can probably hear in my voice, I'm a little sick right now, so feeling a little bit low energy, but I hope it will get better over the next few days."

Zverev hit 12 aces and saved four of five break points to defeat the Beijing champion in 91 minutes. He saved three break points at 3-4 in the opener and won four of the final five games of the set to take the lead.

Zverev broke in the third game of the second set and saved the only break point he faced in the set to finish in an uncomplicated manner.

He improves to 47-15 on the season, and trails ATP win leader Dominic Thiem by just one win.

Tsitsipas Battles Past Khachanov

For the second year in a row, Stefanos Tsitsipas has defeated Karen Khachanov at Shanghai in straight sets. It was a far different story last year as the Greek earned his first tour-level win against the Russian. Tsitsipas entered the tournament with an 0-8 overall record on tour.

Fast forward a full season and the Greek owns 35 wins on the season and sits at a career-high No.15 in the rankings.

Khachanov had three set points in the second set against Tsitsipas in the second-set tiebreaker, but some brilliant shotmaking from the Greek enabled him to overcome the challenge and notch a 6-4, 7-6(8) victory.

Tsitsipas, still breathing in the Race to London standings, moves on to face Kevin Anderson in the third round. The South African was a straight-sets winner against Mikhail Kukushkin on Wednesday.

Del Potro Powers Past Gasquet

Juan Martin del Potro had to battle through difficult times to get past France’s Richard Gasquet, but the Tower of Tandil did just that on Wednesday, scrapping back from 3-5 down in the first set and saving four set points in the second set tiebreaker to earn a 7-5, 7-6(7) victory.

Del Potro improves to 47-12 with his victory and sets up a third-round clash with Borna Coric.

Tecnifibre T-Fight

In other early action on Wednesday in Shanghai, Marco Cecchinato earned his second consecutive win on a hardcourt for the first time, defeating Hyeon Chung, 4-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(5), while Kyle Edmund knocked off Andreas Seppi, 6-3, 6-4.
