Reigning Wimbledon champion Roger Federer is the men's top seed, world No. 1 Simona Halep heads the ladies' seeds, while seven-time champion Serena Williams is seeded 25th in the draw—one spot behind 2004 Wimbledon champion and memoir nemesis Maria Sharapova.

Serena: I'd Be Pregnant If Not Playing

Australian Open champion Federer is aiming for his ninth Wimbledon championship.

Eleven-time Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal, who surpassed Federer to regain the world No. 1 ranking on Monday, is seeded second, 2017 Wimbledon finalist Marin Cilic is seeded third and Alexander Zverev is the fourth seed.

Indian Wells champion Juan Martin del Potro is the fifth seed followed by sixth-seeded Grigor Dimitrov, seventh-seeded Dominic Thiem, eighth-seeded Kevin Anderson, ninth-seeded John Isner and No. 10-seeded David Goffin.

Three-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic is seeded No. 12.

It will be Williams' first Wimbledon since 2016 when she defeated Angelique Kerber, 7-5, 6-3, to raise the Rosewater Dish for the seventh time.

The 36-year-old Williams, who took an eight-month maternity leave after giving birth to daugther Alexis Olympia Ohanian on September 1st, is currently ranked No. 183.

Roland Garros did not seed Williams, who was ranked No. 451 when she returned to Paris. Williams knocked off 17th-seeded Ashleigh Barty and 11th-seeded Julia Goerges in succession to reach the Roland Garros fourth round where she conceded  walkover to Sharapova.

Several players, including Halep and Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki have advocated seedings for former champions returning from maternity leave.

Others have suggested the 23-time Grand Slam champion may be receiving preferential treatment. World No. 32 Dominika Cibulkova, who was bumped from the seedings with Williams' inclusion, suggested it would not have happened with another player.

"I think if it will be a different player, not her, I think she will not get.. I think she would not be seeded," Dominika Cibulkova told the media in Eastbourne after bowing to Angelique Kerber. "It's just because she won it many times and she's Serena Williams. So I think that's why."

The All England Club's seeding committee reserves the right to change seedings based on past grass-court results to produce a balanced draw.

USTA President Katrina Adams announced the US Open will factor maternity leave into its seedings.

Roland Garros champion Halep heads the ladies' seeds followed by second-seeded Wozniacki, reigning champion Garbiñe Muguruza, fourth-seeded Sloane Sloane Stephens and No. 5-seeded Elina Svitolina.

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova is the eighth seed, one spot behind compatriot Karolina Pliskova, who has yet to surpass the second round at SW19.

Five of the Top 25 ladies seeds are American: Stephens, ninth-seeded Venus Williams, 10th-seeded Madison Keys, who is working with new coach David Taylor, 16th-seeded CoCo Vandeweghe and the 25th-seeded Serena.
