Stan Wawrinka battled back from a set down to take out Martin Klizan in three sets at the Sofia Open in Bulgaria.

Stan Wawrinka continued his comeback from season-ending knee surgery by notching a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Slovakia’s Martin Klizan at the Sofia Open in Bulgaria. The 32-year-old Wawrinka improves to 2-1 on the season and 3-0 against Klizan, thanks to 16 aces and five of six break points saved.
Wawrinka has been taken to a deciding set in each of his three matches with Klizan, including a five-setter at the Australian Open last season.
Next up for the resurgent Swiss is a quarterfinal with Serbia’s Viktor Troicki. Sixth-seeded Troicki edged Denis Istomin, 7-6(4), 1-6, 7-6(5), to improve to 7-2 lifetime at Sofia.
Other winners on Thursday were No.3-seeded Gilles Muller, who defeated Andreas Seppi, 4-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(2), and Marcos Baghdatis, who defeated No.2-seeded Adrian Mannarino, 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-1.
