33-year-old Juan Monaco announced his retirement from tennis on Monday. The Argentine was a former World No.10 that owned nine ATP titles, eight of them on clay.

“Although it creates me a lot of nostalgia, I am sure I am making the right decision,” Monaco said in a statement on his social media. “One wonderful and very important part of my life has come to the end. I retire from professional tennis.”

Monaco won 40 matches in 2012 and reached five finals that year, winning four of them.

He claimed 20 Top 10 wins in his career and reached the second week at Roland Garros (2007 and 2012) and the US Open (2007 and 2011).

He was also a very close friend and playstation confidante of Rafael Nadal.
