More: Federer Too Good for Wide-Eyed Tiafoe

The Argentine improved to 6-3 on the season and 3-0 lifetime against Haase with a 6-2, 6-4 decision. He saved both break points he faced and won 25 of 29 first serve points to gallop to victory in 81 minutes.

Del Potro broke twice in the first set and did not face a break point; in the second set he marched in lockstep with Haase through the first eight games before breaking at love in the ninth game.

Del Potro served out the match to love, clinching when Haase ripped a forehand long.

Del Potro, a semifinalist in 2009 at Miami, has reached the third round for the first time since 2012. He will face Federer for the 21st time in his career, but the first time since 2013. Federer holds the 15-5 edge and has won the last two matches.

Kyrgios, Zverev Roll into Third Round

Nick Kyrgios bombed ten aces and cruised past Damir Dzumhur to book a spot in the third round alongside Ivo Karlovic. The Aussie, playing at his usual crisp clip, needed just 63 minutes to get the win. Karlovic hit nine aces and saved all four break points he faced to get past Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov, 7-6(4), 6-1.

Coric Nets First Top 10 Win of Season

Borna Coric slid past Dominic Thiem in straight sets to book his fourth career Top 10 win and first of the season. The Croat and Austrian had to wait out a three-hour rain delay before completing the last three games of the second set.

Coric will move on to face the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the third round.
