Philipp Kohlschreiber celebrated homecoming week collecting his first title of the season.

Kitzbühel resident Kohlschreiber swept Joao Sousa, 6-3, 6-4, to capture his hometown title for the second time in three years.

The 33-year-old Kohlschreiber claimed his eighth career ATP title and first since he defeated Dominic Thiem to win the 2016 Munich crown.

Kohlschreiber converted four of five break points and tormented Sousa’s second serve winning 12 of 20 points played on the Portuguese player’s second delivery. Kohlschreiber raised his record to 18-8 lifetime in Kitzbühel. 



Two years ago, Kohlschreiber defeated Fabio Fognini, top-seeded Dominic Thiem and Paul-Henri Mathieu in succession to claim the 2015 Kitzbühel crown.

The 47th-ranked Kohlschreiber has won seven of his eight career championships in Germany and Austria.



Contesting his second final of the year following his Auckland loss to Jack Sock, Sousa fell to 2-7 lifetime in ATP finals.
