Rafael Nadal ended the fantastic week of Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman with a 6-4, 6-4 decision that places him in the semifinals of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters for the 12th time.

The Spaniard will continue his bid for a record 50th clay-court title (and 10th at Monte-Carlo) on Saturday when he meets David Goffin for the first time at an ATP event. Goffin stunned No.2-seeded Novak Djokovic, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, earlier on Friday.

"He's a great player. He's a player that is playing unbelievably well during the whole season. He is winning so many matches. I know he can win against everybody, and he knows it too,” said Nadal, according to the ATP.

Nadal notched his 61st career victory at Monte-Carlo, but the feisty Argentine made him work for it. Nadal was broken twice and only won nine of nineteen second-serve points.

After claiming the final two games of the opener, he quickly moved ahead by a break in the second set, but Schwartzman, playing in his first career Masters quarterfinal, reeled off the next four games to threaten to force a decider.

But Nadal hit back, quickly reclaiming the break and marching through the last four games to seal his triumph in one hour and 39 minutes.
