Jamie Murray has something that his younger brother Andy doesn’t. Two Grand Slam titles in the same year. The older Murray, paired with Brazil’s Bruno Soares, won the U.S. Open men’s doubles title on Saturday by defeating Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta and Guilllermo Garcia-Lopez, 6-2, 6-3.

Mixed: Siegemund and Pavic Prevail for U.S. Open Title

With the victory Soares becomes the first Brazilian man to win a U.S. Open men’s doubles title, while Murray becomes the first British man to win the U.S. Open doubles title since 1972.

Murray and Soares defeated top-seeded Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the semifinals, and are now just about 300 points from claiming the No. 1 ranking.

The British-Brazilian pairing won their first Grand Slam doubles title in Australia, when they defeated Daniel Nestor and Radek Stepanek for their first major title, both as a team and as individuals.

“For us to come here again and to win a Grand Slam, you know, is an awesome feeling,” Murray said. “I think we are both super excited about the partnership and what we can do in the biggest tournaments.”

“For me, New York has been amazing to me. I won the mixed here twice,” Soares said. “I had a very tough run in 2013 when Alex, we won the semis, but he got injured so we weren't able to compete in the final. So for me to be able to come back here and win the whole thing is just amazing feeling. I mean, the year has been incredible, our first year as a team. I mean, to win two slams, it's tough to explain how good the feeling is.”

The pair will split $625K in prize money for their victory.
