Novak Djokovic needed just 49 minutes to win his tenth consecutive match on Thursday, as he raced past Turkish qualifier Marsel Ilhan, 6-1, 6-1, to set up a semifinal with Tomas Berdych at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

The four-time champion improved to 34-4 lifetime in Dubai, saving all three break points he faced and winning 15 of 17 second serves against the world No. 104.

“I made a double break, and I felt like I was in control of the match,” Djokovic said of his 616th career win. “I didn't allow him to get into the groove."

Nonetheless, the quarterfinal defeat was a success in many ways for Ilhan. He had lost in the qualifying in his last five attempts at Dubai.

The Serb, who won three consecutive titles in Dubai from 2009 to 2011 as well as the 2013 title, was ousted by Roger Federer in three sets in the semifinals at Dubai last year.

Djokovic will face Tomas Berdych in Friday’s semifinals. He owns a 17-2 record against the Czech, which includes a 15-0 record on hard courts.

The other semifinal in Dubai will feature Roger Federer against 18-year-old Borna Coric.
