An Abdominal Injury Threatens to Slow Andy Murray's Progress on Grass

Andy Murray is battling a left abdomen injury that could threaten his progress on the grass this summer. The former World No.1 has been in excellent form in the last two weeks, having played the semifinals at the Surbiton Challenger and the final at Stuttgart, where he lost to Matteo Berrettini on Sunday.

But the Scot has an issue to deal with and he isn’t quite sure how he’ll feel next week at the Queen’s Club, where he is due to face Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego in first-round action on Tuesday.

“It’s a really long time [since] I have played nine matches in 14 days,” Murray said, according to the UK Guardian. “I also played Thursday through Saturday last week and then Thursday through to Sunday here. So it is probably normal that I would feel some stuff in my body but I don’t really know the severity of it. I’ll need to get it checked out. Hopefully it is all right.”

Murray has risen to No.47 as of Monday’s newly released ATP rankings, which marks his highest ranking since May 28 of 2018. The Scot, who reunited with former coach Ivan Lendl earlier this year, is showing himself as a potential threat to make the second week at Wimbledon, if he can keep his body in good shape.
