Pliskova: Fed Cup Final Neutral Site Stupid Idea

Karolina Pliskova has played on the Czech Republic's Fed Cup championship team.

The US Open finalist is expected to play for the two-time defending champion Czech squad when it faces France in the November 12-13th Fed Cup final.

Pliskova is not a fan of the ITF's plan to stage both Fed Cup and Davis Cup final four ties at a neutral site, saying the proposal "looks stupid."

"I mean, to be honest, I think it's I don't want to say stupid, but yeah," Pliskova told the media in Wuhan. "For me it looks stupid because there is always the chance that it's in one country, and always the fans and everything can be on one side.

"I mean, if, for example, Czech and France, we play in Russia, I don't see any reason why we would go there. Of course, with the people there, there would not be any fans. And the sponsors... For me doesn't make any sense, but let's see."

The International Tennis Federation announced cities and national tennis federations can submit bids to host a combined Davis Cup and Fed Cup final four competition at a neutral site.

Currently, both Davis Cup and Fed Cup finals are hosted by one of the finalists.

The plan to host the Davis Cup and Fed Cup finals at a neutral site is part of a major restructuring of the international team competitions that could also include:

*Shortening Davis Cup matches to best-of-three sets, rather than the current best-of-five-set format.

*Condensing Davis Cup competitions to two days rather than the current three days.

*Expanding the Fed Cup World Group to 16 teams.

*Granting first-round byes to reigning Davis Cup and Fed Cup champions.
